When a potential client is searching for an engineer or engineering firm, they may find themselves sitting in front of the computer and Googling (Google.com) the following terms: "find a structural engineer," "architectural engineer," "civil engineering," "civil engineer," "civil engineer firm directory," and/or "civil engineer firm."
And that's the exact search I sat down to perform today.
What I found were five ways to list yourself (you're an engineer, right?) or an engineering firm for free or close to it. The prices ranged from free and up to 348 British Pounds. Yes, there was one foreign and internationally known directory that I recommend you list yourself in.
Additionally, many of the sites listed below offer the option to list your individual engineering skills or engineering company’s website. If you haven’t already established a website, or hopped on the Internet bandwagon, you’re trailing behind your competition.
Display your works more effectively – visually that is – and discover how your practice can boom when potential clients can view your previous work. Contact Global Site Plans to learn how low-cost and cost-effective a website can be for your engineering business.
Go on now, and visit the links below for free, and almost free, ways to promote your engineering skills or engineering firm on the Internet (Left link is the homepage and right link goes directly to adding your firms’ listing to the directory).
3. American Society of Civil Engineers: Buyer's Guide - Offers a free company listing registration for their directory.
4. The Institution of Structural Engineers - Become a member of The Institution of Structural Engineers and find yourself and your firm listed in the Members Directory Search. The membership is free for students and up to 348 British pounds annually.
5. ReferWork.com - Join Refer Work's Contractor Network through a free, basic, or premium membership listing. Cost is from free and up to $125.00 annually.
And, of course, this list is just the beginning. You can also submit yourself, your engineering firm or engineering company listing to local listings on search engines, such as Yahoo! Local (Add Your Business to Yahoo! Local) and Google Places and Google Maps (You must have a Google account to sign in and add your business).
And if you already have an individual website and/or a firm website, make sure you submit your website to all the major search engines, such as Yahoo!, Bing, and Google. That is, if you haven’t already.
Now, go out there and beat the competition!
