More than just a pastime, the bicycle also serves as a mode of transportation. At the initiative of the Office of Transportation for the Ile-de-France (Stif), the Veligo measure proposes secure parking spaces for your bicycle near train or metro stations.

Users of public transportation who would be prepared to get to the train station or metro via bike are numerous, if only they could leave their precious bicycle there securely. But often, the fear of theft or graffiti dissuades them.

The Veligo provision presents the solution to this concern. In effect, it proposes a secure parking space where you can leave your bike during the day and take the train in peace. For an annual subscription of ten to thirty euros, the service is open to all public transport commuters in the Ile-de-France who hold a Navigo card.

More Than 2,000 Spaces From Now Until 2015

For the moment, there are only some train stations in the Ile-de-France that are equipped with Veligo. In order to extend the measure, Stif has decided to deploy it across the 33 train and other stations (RER and metro), to result in a total of 2,136 new Veligo spaces in service between now and 2015.

This concerns eight RER C and D stations in Essonne: Brétigny, Brunoy, Etampes, Evry-Courcouronnes, Grigny-Centre, Massy-Palaiseau, Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois and Savigny-sur-Orge.

In Val-de-Marne, eight RER A, B, C, D and E stations and one Trans Val de Marne (TVM), as well as five stations of the 7 and 8 lines of the metro will be equipped.

The Ermont-Eaubonne, Cormeilles-en-Parisis, Louvres and Garges-Sarcelles in Val d'Oise, Le Stade on the J line in les Hauts-de-Seine, Ozoir-la-Ferrière and Cesson en Seine-et-Marne, as well as Plaisir-Grignon, Le Vésinet-Centre, Le Vésinet-Le Pecq and Versailles Rive Gauche in the Yvelines stations will also make use of their own Veligo stations.

Objective: 20,000 Veligo Spaces by 2020

From now until the end of 2016, 4,520 additional spaces will be created and divided among 116 additional train and other stations. By this date, 180 train and other stations will make use of their own secure bike parking in the Ile-de-France, with 9,000 spaces made available for cyclist use. The objective is to reach 20,000 Veligo spaces by 2020.
